La Leche League is an international, nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing education, information, support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed.

Membership in La Leche League International is $40 for one year. Membership fees help to support your local Group and the international organization. The benefits of membership include a one-year subscription to NEW BEGINNINGS magazine.

Ongoing Group Fundraisers: LLL of Iowa City sells copies of THE WOMANLY ART OF BREASTFEEDING and Over the Shoulder Baby Holder slings. Both of these items are great baby shower gifts! Call one of the Leaders listed to the right for further information.

Cleaning out your closets? Iowa City La Leche League has accounts at local consignment stores if you would like to donate your things to LLL.

La Leche League of Iowa City, Iowa

All breastfeeding mothers and mothers-to-be interested in breastfeeding are welcome to come to our meetings or call one of our Leaders for breastfeeding help or information. Babies and children are always welcome at our meetings.

Meeting Information

La Leche League of Iowa City provides mother-to-mother support through our informal monthly meetings. Using La Leche League Philosophy and THE WOMANLY ART OF BREASTFEEDING as resources, Leaders facilitate and promote discussion of breastfeeding information. Meetings are tailored to the unique needs of the mothers in attendance at each meeting. Leaders are also available after meetings to meet with mothers who need individualized assistance.

Meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early to allow yourself time to get settled.

All meetings are held at St Andrew Presbyterian Church, 1300 Melrose, in Iowa City. Church phone is 338-7523.

World Breastfeeding Celebration Event
Tuesday, August 26, 2008 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
North Ridge Pavillion, Coralville

Directions: Take Hwy 965 North to Holiday Road, turn right. Follow to North Ridge Park Pavillion entrance.

This event is open to the public. It is a family event that will include free dinner for the family, free samples, bargain book sale, bid-a-basket silent auction and kids' activities. Funds raised at the event will help La Leche League to further its mission in providing support to breastfeeding mothers. We hope you and your family will join us for an evening of family friendly fun! Please contact one of the lLeaders listed below for additional information or if you have questions regarding the event.

Leader Information

La Leche League Leaders are experienced mothers who have breastfed their own babies and who have been trained and accredited by La Leche League International to help mothers and mothers-to-be with all aspects of breastfeeding. They are available by phone whenever you have breastfeeding questions or concerns. Leaders may or may not check their email regularly; if you have an immediate concern about breastfeeding, please call.
