LLL of Oregon

La Leche League is an international, nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing education, information, support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed.

Membership in La Leche League USA can be obtained from your local La Leche League Group. Membership fees help to support your local Group, LLL USA, and LLL International. The benefits of membership vary from Group to Group. Ask your LLL Leader how to receive a free electronic copy of New Beginnings.

Since 1956 La Leche League has been helping mothers find the support and information they need to breastfeed their babies. Volunteer breastfeeding counselors (Leaders) lead meetings in their communities here and around the world. Leaders are women who have nursed their own babies and who are trained and accredited by La Leche League. By attending La Leche League meetings, pregnant women and nursing mothers can:

  • learn how to breastfeed
  • share the benefits and joys of breastfeeding
  • discuss questions and concerns
  • build a network of support for breastfeeding and mothering

Breastfeeding...The Best Beginning

Breastfeeding is a natural as well as a learned process. Its benefits include:

  • less risk of illness, allergies, childhood cancer, diabetes and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in babies who are breastfed
  • less risk of breast and ovarian cancer, anemia and osteoporosis in mothers who breastfeed
  • lower feeding and health care costs and less work absenteeism for breastfeeding families and their communities
  • less pollution of the environment

All breastfeeding mothers and mothers-to-be interested in breastfeeding are welcome to come to our meetings or call one of our Leaders for breastfeeding help or information.
