Conway Faulkner County Children's Health Fair We had a table with a representative of another non-LLL group, we were also able to make a breastfeeding and pumping area available, although few used it. The turnout to the fair was unusually low this year, due to physicians not being involved. But it was a fun way to reach out to our community, to let them know that a group like this exists! Mothers seemed to be interested and intrigued. Most feedback was from breastfeeding advocates who were done nursing but excited to know there is a group in our community. It helped us realize we need to work on advertising and getting the word out about our group in more effective ways.

We weren't able to collect any donations because of rules at the fair, but it was still worth it. Maybe next year's event will be bigger and better!!

Walk on Pearl Street Mall
See photos on our photo page!
On August 7th the Boulder County La Leche League Groups (LLL of Boulder, LLL of Longmont, and LLL of Louisville) celebrated World Breastfeeding Week with a symbolic walk through Downtown Boulder's Pearl Street Mall, a silent auction fundraiser, and plenty of wonderful gifts for participants. Our Leaders also manned an information booth at the wildly popular Boulder Farmer's Market. Both the celebration and the information booth were a lot of fun. One of the most touching elements was watching the previously breastfed, now 4 to 7 year olds man the LLL banner along our walk. What a great gift to us all to see so many healthy, happy kids! We were able to reach out to many new faces and enjoy the companionship of over 50 happy breastfed children and their families... and we raised over $600!

Approximately 100 people attended our event. We raised $5100, which included the successful auction of a statue appraised at $33,700. The “Madre e Fanciullo” was offered to us for auction by Rinascere Studios, Ltd., a fundraising organization. The statue auctioned for $4100. Rinascere receives half the money to continue their fundraising program and LLL receives the other half. Items donated by local businesses for our silent auction and drawing raised the remaining $1000.
The Norman Police and Fire Departments were on hand to provide car seat checks and child fingerprinting for attendees. The Mayor and City Council of Norman declared August 2004 Breastfeeding Awareness Month in Norman, Oklahoma. LLL of Norman received some positive press coverage in The Norman Transcript, The Oklahoma Gazette and on KGOU, our local NPR station.

August 8: Our Moments for Mom Fair was yesterday! We had approximately 100 moms, dads, and kiddies come through. Thirty-one people attended the event, participating in a walk and picnic, and enjoying information booths and children's activities. Several prizes, including gift baskets and gift certificates, were awarded in a drawing.

Expectant and new mothers received an information packet, including a copy of New Beginnings, a Lansinoh sample, breast pads, a gift certificate for $5 off a nursing bra, and an LLL button.

The majority of the food for the picnic, the prizes, and balloons were donated by local businesses.
