La Leche League is an international nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing education, information, support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed.
Membership in La Leche League is $40 for one year. Membership fees
help to support your local Group and LLL of Utah.
Members and non-members are welcome to attend our meetings and contact LLL Leaders for breastfeeding help.
- Mothering through breastfeeding is the most natural and effective way of understanding and satisfying the needs of the baby.
- Mother and baby need to be together early and often to establish a satisfying relationship and an adequate milk supply.

In the early years the baby has an intense need to be with his mother
which is as basic as his need for food.

Breast milk is the superior infant food.

For the healthy full-term baby, breast milk is the only food necessary
until baby shows signs of needing solids, about the middle of the
first year after birth.

Ideally the breastfeeding relationship will continue until the baby outgrows
the need.

Alert and active participation by the mother in childbirth is a help in
getting breastfeeding off to a good start.

Breastfeeding is enhanced and the nursing couple sustained by the loving support,
help and companionship of the baby's father. A father's unique relationship
with his baby is an important element in the child's development
from early infancy.

Good nutrition means eating a well-balanced and varied diet of foods
in as close to their natural state as possible.

From infancy on, children need loving guidance which reflects acceptance
of their capabilities and sensitivity to their feelings.

Leaders in your area have been accredited by La Leche League International and are qualified to answer a mother's questions about preparation and technique, as well as offer support on an informal mother-to-mother basis.

For support, encouragement, or answers to your breastfeeding questions, call a La Leche League Leader anytime.
In addition to individual phone help, La Leche League offers a monthly series of four meetings. Mothers to be, mothers (with infants and toddlers), and other women interested in learning more about the womanly art of breastfeeding are welcome to attend. You may begin attending at any meeting. Those who are pregnant will find it helpful to start attending La Leche League meetings before the baby arrives.
These informal discussions with other breastfeeding mothers are led by an accredited La Leche League Leader, and include the following topics.
- The Importance of Breastfeeding.
- The Baby Arrives: The Family and the Breastfeeding Baby.
- Meeting Breastfeeding Challenges
- Nutrition and Weaning.
Available at the meetings is an excellent library containing books about breastfeeding, childbirth, nutrition, child care, and parenting.
Use the table below to find a Leader in your area. You may call her for for the current locations of meetings near you. All mothers, regardless of LLL membership are welcome to attend meetings and contact LLL Leaders for breastfeeding help.
