The first day of the International Mastery Symposium (IMS) was a general day for all participants. A space was opened for many sessions to be convened and topics to be discussed. The second day of IMS had a more departmental focus. The USWD Area Professional Liaisons, Area Finance Coordinators, and Area Coordinators of Events planned similar days that included time spent together amongst the departments. In the morning, each department met separately. Time was spent on introductions and getting to know each other a bit.

AFCs discussed several burning topics and shared about their Areas. The tax deductibility of membership was thoroughly discussed and AFCs were able to ask questions of the group and generate ideas. The AFCs then met together with the AFCs from the Eastern US Division and Stephanie Weishaar to discuss the house party fundraising for the 50th Anniversary of LLLI.

The APLs met in the morning and the primary focus of their discussion was on orientation for APLs and Assistant APLs. Additionally the conversation focused on finding new APLs and AAPLs. Katy Lebbing, Manager of the CBI joined the APLs to discuss current hot topics.

The ACEs met and discussed Impediments to Success as well as Requirements for Success. All three groups enjoyed a productive morning before heading off to lunch.

Following lunch, the three groups met jointly to open a space for the afternoon. The convening question was: How can we work together to foster learning, growth, and financial stability for our Areas? Five session topics were convened:

  • Balancing CE Expenses at Conferences and Partnering with Hospitals and Others
  • Nitty-Gritty Conference Planning
  • What is the Minimum Education for a Leader and Who Pays for What?
  • What Resources and Support are Needed to be Successful?
  • PL Orientation

All of the discussions were full of energy and vitality. Participants met briefly together at the end of the day to share highlights of discussions and next steps to be taken. It was revitalizing and a wonderful way to connect with each other and value the contributions we all make to LLL.
